Your duties

  • Leading the delivery of legal services on all operational matters falling within the competence of FIFA’s Event Legal department, including bidding, hosting and staging of events, as well as ticketing, hospitality and accommodation
  • Management of the Event Legal department, including the career development, training and performance of department staff
  • Planning and implementation of tax and corporate structures of FIFA subsidiaries in host countries of FIFA Events
  • Supporting the Director of Operational Legal’s overall supervision of the compliance by the FIFA Commercial Legal Department with the FIFA Internal Organisation Directives (InOD) in relation to the signature procedures and activity as “Bureau of the Management Board”
  • Supporting the Director of Operational Legal’s provision with legal and operational input for cross-divisional working groups in the development and updating of FIFA’s strategies, including FIFA’s Hosting Strategy
  • Advising the Director of Operational Legal regarding political and public affairs matters affecting the Event Legal department
  • Supervising and directing the implementation of FIFA compliance and project management policies within the department
  • Supervising of and responsibility for the administration of the department’s budgets
  • Coordinating the interaction with the other departments in the Operational Legal subdivision
  • Reporting to the Director of Operational Legal

Our requirements

  • Fully qualified to practise law (registered on the roll/admitted to the bar of the relevant jurisdiction and completed academic and practical training)
  • Minimum 9 years of experience of legal practice in the sports industry, either in-house or with a reputable law firm engaged in bidding for, hosting and staging sports events
  • Clear track record of leading drafting and negotiations of hosting agreements, stadium agreements and the preparation of bid documentation for premium sports properties
  • Demonstrable understanding of all aspects of bidding, hosting and staging major sports events, including in relation to ticketing, hospitality and accommodation
  • Experience of the development, organization and delivery of international sports events in the USA
  • Experience of dealing with US customs, tax, immigration and union related issues in respect of the organization and delivery of international sports events in the USA
  • Proven experience of leading a team and ability to develop and implement strategies for the daily management of the team
  • Ability to develop and implement legal and commercial strategies for the future delivery of FIFA's tournaments and events
  • Excellent team management and communication skills
  • Fluent in English, any other FIFA languages (German, French or Spanish) is an advantage
  • Ability to handle large workload and pro-active and collaborative approach
  • Open minded team player with affinity for various cultural and political sensitivities
